Explore the architectural, spiritual, and artistic heart of Islamic Cairo

Itinerary:

08:00 – Pickup from your hotel

08:45 – The Citadel of Saladin & The Alabaster Mosque: Begin your tour at Cairo’s majestic Citadel of Saladin, a medieval fortress with panoramic views over the city. Within its walls, visit the magnificent Mosque of Muhammad Ali (also known as the Alabaster Mosque), a striking symbol of Ottoman influence and a spiritual centerpiece of Cairo’s skyline.

11:00 – Ibn Tulun Mosque: Step into serenity at Ibn Tulun, Cairo’s oldest surviving mosque and one of the largest in Africa. Built in the 9th century, its vast open courtyard and unique spiral minaret reflect early Islamic design and enduring spiritual simplicity.

13:00 – Gayer-Anderson Museum: Attached to the mosque is the Gayer-Anderson House, a beautifully preserved 17th-century residence once home to a British army doctor and art collector. Wander through rooms filled with Islamic art, antiques, Mashrabiya windows, and hidden chambers that bring Cairo’s domestic past to life.

15:00 – Al-Moez Street – Historic Islamic Cairo: Conclude your day with a walk along Al-Moez Street, often called an open-air museum of Islamic architecture. Marvel at intricately carved minarets, medieval gates, madrassas, and restored palaces. Stop for a cup of mint tea in one of the street’s historic cafés and absorb the timeless rhythm of Cairo’s old soul.
